Are You A Surface-Scratcher or A Deep-Diver?
Choose wisely

There are two types of people out there:
Surface-Scratchers and Deep-Divers.
I’ll cut straight to the chase.
Don’t be a surface-scratcher.
Surface-Scratchers
The world is full of surface-scratchers.
Those that barely penetrate the surface layer of understanding, then move on to the next topic or industry that peaks their interest.
These people are great at carrying out conversation.
They can chime in on pretty much anything.
But their words don’t carry much weight.
It’s the deep-divers who are worth listening to.
Deep-Divers
Unlike the surface-scratcher, the deep-diver doesn’t have the widest breadth of general knowledge.
They don’t have a scattered selection of one-liners that they can lend out to any and every subject.
But they’re extremely well versed in their realm of genius.
If they’re focused on tech startups - they can give you a detailed bio of the existing incumbents and dissect the business model of every newcomer.
If they’re in the real estate space - they can break down an entire city block by block and tell you exactly where to buy versus where you should avoid.
If they’re all in on emerging markets - they can tell you which countries are growing the fastest and what types of investment opportunities should be on your radar.
Whatever it is that they’re into, they’ve dedicated their all to it.
Planting their feet firm in the center of their circle of competency.
Made My Choice and Never Looked Back
Over my years of investing in real estate, there’s been plenty of shiny objects that have caught my attention and nearly caused me to swerve from the beaten path that I know best.
Crypto
Stock Options
Buying Businesses
There’s plenty of money to be made in all three spaces.
And each one is interesting enough to drag you down a never-ending rabbit hole.
But the dichotomy of the surface-scratcher vs the deep-diver is what has always kept my eyes on the road.
The journey to cementing yourself as a thought leader and trusted source of insight is a life-long commitment.
And I decided early that real estate is what I’m going to give my all to.
To put a bow on this. . .
Some may say that deep-divers are stubborn and don’t know enough.
I say that surface-scratchers are shallow and try to learn too much.
It pays to be sharp, not well-rounded.
Pick the one hill that you’re going to live and die on.
We all have to go someday, at least you’ll leave on top of your game.
What’s your take on today’s topic? Do you agree, disagree, or is there something I missed?
